A visibly sad looking David Cameron bade an emotional farewell to the European Union during last night’s supper in Brussels at EU leaders’ summit. He said that Britain will not turn his back on the European Union. He said that he could have won the referendum, had the European leaders given him the deal he was seeking, to put an emergency brake to immigration. He said it is the immigration that cost him the vote.

However, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that he doesn’t believe that it was immigration but the comments coming from British political class for years and decades that there is something wrong with the European Union.

Other key messages that came from the European leaders are as follows –

  • The United Kingdom shouldn’t take too much time in triggering the Article 50 negotiation but some time.
  • Mr. Cameron declared two names as his potential successor, Boris Johnson or Theresa May.
  • Germany’s Merkel made it clear that to access the single market, Britain will have to accept the freedom of movements.
  • Mark Rutte, Dutch Prime Minister said that the England has collapsed politically, monetarily, constitutionally and economically.

To conclude, Mr. Cameron said his last supper was positive, constructive and peaceful.
