The 1st biopic about Pope Francis opens Italian cinemas on 3 December

The 1st film about the life of Pope Francis, ‘Call Me Francesco’ will have its world premiere at the Vatican on 1 December, before hitting Italian theaters on 700 screens.

The new film from Daniele Luchetti is produced by Mediaset’s TaoDue and distributed by Medusa in Italy.

‘Call Me Francesco’ details the life of the Holy Father from his youth as the son of Italian immigrants in Argentina, living under the military dictatorship, to his pastoral work in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, to becoming a leader in the Catholic Church.

The film ends on 13 March 2013, the day he was elected Pope. Argentine actor Rodrigo De La Serna stars as the young Jorge Mario Bergoglio who later became Pope Francis.

The film required 15 weeks of shooting across Argentina, Germany and Italy, 3,000 extras and much research.

Silvio Berlusconi was the supporter of the project and plans on distributing the film worldwide. TaoDue is handling international sales.
