Donald Trump Is A “Main” Stage Candidate
CNBC’s GOP main debate got off to a contentious start when Ohio Gov. John Kasich blasted front-runners Donald Trump and Ben Carson.
Gov Kasich blasted Dr. Carson’s plan to fund the government with a 10% flat tax or “tithe.”
“We will just fix everything with waste, fraud and abuse. Oh that is just going to be great, and we will ship 10-M people out of this country, leaving their children here in this country and dividing families,” he continued, a reference to Donald Trump’s immigration policy.
Donald Trump fired back, saying Gov. Kasich “got lucky with a thing called fracking, OK? He hit Oil, he got lucky with fracking, that is why Ohio is doing really well.”
Debate moderator John Harwood got into it too, asking Donald Trump whether his candidacy was more like a Comic Book than a serious run.
“Mr. Trump, you have done very well in this campaign so far by promising to build another wall and make another country pay for it, send 11-M people out of the country, cut taxes $10-T without increasing the deficit and make Americans better off because your greatness will replace the stupidity and incompetence of others, let’s be honest: Is this a Comic Book version of a presidential campaign?”
“No, it is not a Comic Book version. And it is not a very nicely asked question, the way you say that,” Mr. Trump said.
He said he is trying to stop corporate inversions, build a wall to create a border. Then Mr. Harwood mocked Donald Trump’s claim that his tax plan would make the economy take off “like a Rocket Ship.”
“I talked to economic advisers who have served Presidents of both parties. They say you have a chance of cutting taxes that much without increasing a deficit as you would of flying away from that podium by flapping your arms,” Mr. Harwood said. The audience booed and cat called the moderators.
Donald Trump fired back at the hapless moderator, the crowd cheered.
The clear loser of CNBC’s Republican presidential debate on Wednesday was the CNBC moderating team, according to several of the candidates and multiple pundits who watched the event.
