Donald Trump Led American Conservatives Shock Mainstream Republicans

House Speaker Boehner’s (R-OH) surprise announcement that he is resigning from Congress just 4 months before voting begins in the Presidential primaries. This decision exposed the deep divide within the Republican party.

Conservative GOP voters have been deeply disappointed with the last 2 Republican presidential nominees: Mitt Romney (R-Mass), and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).

Mr. Boehner is very unpopular among conservative activists, and his resignation will give them new hope that the party will choose a candidate who energizes the most passionate voters, even if that nominee is seen as less attractive to the electorate.

The turmoil on Capitol Hill sends a clear message to the Presidential field:

  1. They need to follow through on their promises, if they do not, elections have consequences.

Donald Trump, Dr. Carson, and Carly Fiorina have triggered and anti-establishment climate. They, for the most part support a measure to strip federal money from the women’s health care provider Planned Parenthood as part of budget negotiations, even if such a move causes a partial government shutdown as early as this coming week.

That is something most legislators, the White House, Wall Street and The People do not want.

Jeb Bush (R-FL) and Gov. John Kasich (R-OH) are in the “don’t want” category. That does little to help Jeb Bush’s standing with conservatives, who are very skeptical of his commitment to their principles.

Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council, which hosted the weekend Values Voter conference, was surprised by Jeb Bush’s absence. “He needs to do well with this voting bloc,” Mr. Perkins said of social conservatives. “Especially where he is at now in the polls. He needs all the help he can get.”

Last Word: John Boehner’s departure is a good omen for where the nation looks be headed.
