Commercial vehicle registrations in the European Union increased for the fourth straight month in April, but at a slower pace than in the previous month, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, or ACEA, said Wednesday.

New vehicle sales climbed 12.2 percent year-over-year to 169,746 units in April, after a 20.7 percent growth logged in March.

New registrations of light commercial vehicles surged 11.8 percent annually in April to 139,598 units. Similarly, new heavy commercial vehicle sales, excluding heavy buses and coaches, grew by 20.8 percent.

Sales in the UK increased the most by 20.9 percent and by 17.6 percent in Spain. Meanwhile, France was only major market to record a slight drop by 0.3 percent.

In the January to April period, total new vehicle sales expanded 13.0 percent year-on-year to 671,701 units.
