During a press conference yesterday morning, amid desperate efforts to placate political pressure to maintain the narrative of a lone-wolf bomber – not terrorist – who may have "had a beef" and just happened to be a muslim, William Sweeney, the assistant director in charge of the FBI's New York division, stated unequivocally:

"There is no indication that the suspect was on the FBI's terror radar" adding that there was "no indication that there's a [terrorist] cell operating" in the New York area and had no information about Ahmad Khan Rahami's "path to radicalization."

Phew – so we can rest assured that all the money spent on systems and surveillance was not wasted and this was perhaps just some mentally unstable man (who just happened to be Muslim and taken a trip or two to Afghanistan).

However,as Bloomberg reports, 24 hours later, The FBI has changed its tune…

Suspected N.Y.-N.J. bomber Ahmad Khan Rahami came across FBI’s radar in response to 2014 domestic incident in which police complaint was made, according to U.S. law enforcement official.

Rahami was flagged in the FBI’s Guardian system, which is a general database of tips and reports of suspicious activity, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the continuing investigation into the bombs set off in Manhattan and in New Jersey.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Rahami was ever interviewed by the FBI.

Rahami was arrested in 2014 on weapons and aggravated assault charges for allegedly stabbing a relative in the leg in a domestic incident, according to court documents cited by the New York Times.

He spent more than three months in jail on the charges, according to a law enforcement official cited by the Times. A grand jury, however, declined to indict Rahami.

So once again, the FBI lied. We do not know why. Or was the FBI Director just clueless and speaking off the cuff? Who knows?

But worse still, as The NYPost reports, the Chelsea bombing suspect's dad "called the FBI 2 years ago!"

The father of bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami said Tuesday morning that he had called the FBI on his son.

After closing his New Jersey fried chicken restaurant, Mohammad Rahami was asked by reporters whether he had called the feds on his son.

“Yes, I called the FBI,” he said as he drove off in his Chevy Suburban after speaking with FBI agents in Elizabeth, where he lives above his First American Fried Chicken joint.

He also said he didn’t think his son is a terrorist. Asked why, he said: “Because the FBI — they know that.”

The cryptic response followed one he made earlier, when he yelled, “I called the FBI two years ago!”

Finally, it is worth remembering that Omar Mateen, who carried out a shooting rampage at a Florida nightclub, also had been flagged in the Guardian system. While the FBI opened a preliminary investigation into Mateen, it didn’t do that for Rahami because there wasn’t enough information to warrant pursuing the matter further and the complaint against Rahami was withdrawn, the official said.
