Finland’s consumer confidence worsened in December after improving in the prior month, survey figures from Statistics Finland showed Monday.

The consumer confidence index dropped to 2.4 in December from 4.7 in the previous month. In October, the reading was 1.3.

The latest survey was conducted among 1,220 residents in Finland, between December 1 and 16.

Households’ expectations regarding their own financial situation for the next twelve months decreased in December. The corresponding index fell from 5.7 in November to 4.7.

Similarly, the index measuring the general economic situation of the country for the next year fell notably to -10.4 in December from -1.9 in November.

The survey showed that only 10 percent of consumers thought in December that unemployment would decrease over the year, while 60 percent of them believed it would increase.

Consumers predicted in December that consumer prices would go up by 1.5 percent over the next twelve months.

In December, 46 percent of consumer thought that the time was favorable for buying durable goods, while 53 percent of consumers considered saving worthwhile.
