Finland’s unemployment rate climbed in December to the highest level in six months, after easing to a one-year low in the previous month, figures from Statistics Finland showed Wednesday.

The jobless rate rose to 9.2 percent at the end of the year from 8.2 percent in November. In the corresponding month last year, the unemployment rate was 8.8 percent.

The latest jobless rate was the highest since June 2015, when it marked 10.0 percent.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate held steady at 9.4 percent in December. Meanwhile, the youth jobless rate increased marginally from 21.3 percent in November to 21.4 percent.

The number of unemployed people grew to 241,000 in December from 216,000 in the preceding month. It was 9,000 higher than a year earlier.

At the same time, the employment rate came in at 58.1 percent in December, down from 58.5 percent in the preceding month.
