French consumer confidence improved as expected to the highest level since 2010, survey data from the statistical office Insee showed Friday.

The households’ consumer confidence index came in at 93 in March versus 92 in February. This was the highest score since November 2010 and came in line with expectations.

Households’ opinion of their past financial situation and their appreciation on their future financial situation remained stable at -27 and -14, respectively.

Households’ opinion of their current saving capacity improved 2 points to 16 in March and the expected saving capacity rose to zero from -4.

Households’ opinion of the past standard of living in France improved for the third consecutive month to -60, the highest value since October 2007.

Similarly, their appreciation on the future standard of living gained for the fifth month in a row, with the index rising to -35 from -37. But these two balances remained far below their long-term average in March.

Further, the survey showed that fewer households expect unemployment to rise, with the corresponding index falling 13 points. The index reached its lowest value since May 2012.

Households were less numerous to expect a rise in prices. The corresponding balance slipped by 2 points and hit the lowest level since November 2009.
