A state election in Germany over the weekend has resulted in a big win for Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservatives
– Saarland election
– Exit polling shows Merkel’s Christian Democrats (CDU) won 40.1% (from 35.2% in the previous election, 2012)
The result is being seen as a good boost for Merkel ahead of the September 24 general election. Saarland is a very small state, and there is still a long time to go until the general election, but there you go.
