German consumer sentiment is set to improve to its highest level since October 2001, survey data from market research group GfK showed Wednesday.

The forward-looking consumer sentiment rose to 10.2 in June from 10.1 in May. This was the highest score since October 2001.

Among sub-components, economic expectations and willingness to buy improved somewhat, while the income expectations declined moderately in May.

The economic expectations of consumers gained ground in May. The indicator climbed by 3 points to 38.3 points. In contrast to economic expectations, income expectations fell 3.1 points to 52.

The indicator measuring willingness to buy rose 4.3 points to 62.6 in May. It remained slightly below its historic peak value of 64.4 points in October 2006.
