German unemployment declined less than expected in April, the Federal Labor Agency reported Thursday.

The number of people out of work declined by seasonally adjusted 8,000 to 2.79 million in April. It was forecast to fall by 15,000.

The jobless rate came in at a record low 6.4 percent, the same rate as seen in March.

According to Destatis, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at adjusted 4.7 percent in March. In the corresponding month of the previous year, the unemployment rate was 5.0 percent.
