Hungary’s unemployment rate decreased more-than-expected in the three months ended September, figures from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office showed Wednesday.

The unemployment rate fell to 6.4 percent in three-month period to September from 6.7 percent in the previous three-month period. Economists had forecast the jobless rate to drop slightly to 6.6 percent.

In the corresponding period last year, the jobless rate was 7.4 percent.

The number of unemployed people decreased to 292,700 in the September quarter from 303,800 in the previous three months. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 331,500.

The youth unemployment rate, which applies to the 15 to 24 age group, decreased by 4.9 percentage points to 16.7 percent in the three months ended September.

The employment rate came in at 63.7 percent in the July to September period, up from 63.5 percent in the previous three-month period.
