Ireland’s retail sales decreased in December after recovering in the previous month, preliminary figures from the Central Statistics Office showed Thursday.

Retail sales volume dropped a seasonally adjusted 0.7 percent month-over-month in December, reversing a 2.0 percent rise in November. In October, sales had fallen 0.8 percent.

On an annual basis, retail sales grew at a slower pace of 6.3 percent in December, following a 9.1 percent climb in the prior month.

Excluding motor trades, retail sales volume also fell 0.7 percent over the month, while it rose 5.9 percent from December 2014.

In value terms, retail sales slid 0.8 percent monthly in December, in contrast to a 1.4 percent spike in the preceding month. Annual sales growth slowed from 5.5 percent to 3.5 percent.
