Automobile production in Japan declined for the fourteenth consecutive month in August, figures from the Japan Automobile Manufactures Association showed Wednesday.

Production volume of vehicles fell 4.7 percent year-over-year to 604,974 units. In the corresponding month of the previous year, production was at 634,833 units.

Domestic automobile demand decreased 1.9 percent to 327,049 units in August. Exports dropped for the first time in three months by 0.1 percent.

Automobile exports to Africa declined the most, by 30.1 percent.

Motorcycle production also dropped in August. It fell 3.9 percent from the previous year to 36,598 units. Domestic sales plunged 11.6 percent and exports slid 2.4 percent.
