Latvia’s retail sales growth accelerated in August after easing in the previous month, figures from the Central Statistical Bureau showed Wednesday.

Retail sales climbed a calendar-adjusted 5.4 percent year-over-year in August, faster than July’s 4.2 percent increase. In June, sales had risen 6.8 percent.

Sales of food products grew 3.1 percent in August from a year ago and that for non-food products went up by 6.9 percent. Retail sales of automotive fuel alone surged 11.9 percent.

On a monthly basis, the seasonally adjusted retail sales rose at a stable rate of 0.3 percent in August. It was the third consecutive monthly gain.
