Lithuania’s retail sales growth eased in April, after accelerating in the previous two months, preliminary figures from the Department of Statistics showed Wednesday.

Retail sales, excluding VAT, rose 3.7 percent year-over-year in April, much slower than March’s 6.6 percent growth. In February, sales had risen 4.6 percent.

Excluding automotive fuel, retail trade expanded by 2.4 percent.

Sales of food, beverages and tobacco products grew 1.4 percent in April from the prior year and that for non-food products climbed by 3.6 percent. Meanwhile, sales of textile, clothing and footwear dropped 1.0 percent.

On a monthly basis, retail sales increased 1.9 percent in April. Excluding automotive fuel, sales rose by 0.6 percent.

In the January to April period, total retail sales advanced 4.0 percent compared with the corresponding period last year.
