Malaysia’s producer prices continued to decline in December, though at a slower rate than in the previous month, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Friday.

The domestic producer price index fell 1.6 percent year-over-year in December, following a 3.0 percent decrease in November.

Producer prices for local production dropped 3.4 percent in December from a year ago. Mining index declined the most by 18.4 percent, followed by electricity and gas with 4.9 percent fall.

Meanwhile, the index for water supply and agriculture, forestry & fishing showed an increase of 6.5 percent and 1.8 per cent respectively.

On a monthly basis, producer prices slid 0.5 percent in December after a 0.6 percent decrease in November. It was the second successive monthly drop.

Import prices grew 2.1 percent annually in December and edged up 0.1 percent from the preceding month.
