Malaysia’s unemployment rate increased marginally in July, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Friday.

The unemployment rate rose to 3.2 percent in July from 3.1 percent in the previous month. In the corresponding month last year, the jobless rate was 2.8 percent.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate also edged up to 3.3 percent in July from 3.2 percent in June.

The number of unemployed people climbed to 459,900 in July from 449,900 in the preceding month. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 394,100.

The labor force participation rate came in at 67.5 percent in July, down from 67.8 percent a month earlier.
