Malta’s producer prices decreased for the ninth straight month in September, figures from the National Statistics Office showed Wednesday.

The producer price index fell 2.56 percent year-over-year in September, which was worse than the 2.17 percent drop in the previous month.

Domestic market producer prices slid 3.4 percent in September from a year ago and foreign market prices dropped by 1.93 percent.

The annual decline in September was largely due to a 14.02 percent slump in energy prices. Prices in the intermediate goods sector dipped 3.12 percent, while prices in the durable consumer goods sector logged an increase of 7.90 percent.

Monthly, producer prices climbed for the first time four months by 0.46 percent in September, following a 0.38 percent drop in August. Both domestic and foreign market prices gained 0.54 percent and 0.39 percent, respectively.
