Foreigners await Japan’s supplementary budget, not easing

TOKYO — The Japanese stock market showed Monday that overseas investors no longer get excited about more easing and want to see a supplementary budget instead.

After the European Central Bank signaled additional monetary easing Thursday and China cut its interest rates Friday, anticipation was high for investors to chase Tokyo shares’ upward trends. The Nikkei Stock Average did regain 19,000 at the opening bell, rising 263 points by 9:09 a.m. But this turned out to be the day’s high, with investors subsequently taking profits, sending stocks down in the afternoon. The index ended the day up just 121 points at 18,947.
