Montenegro’s foreign trade deficit widened in the first three months of the year, figures from the Montenegro Statistical Office showed Monday.

The trade deficit rose to EUR 282.29 million in the three-month period to March from EUR 272.16 million in the corresponding period last year.

Exports grew 7.2 percent year-over-year to EUR 74.5 million in the three months ended in March and imports also advanced by 4.4 percent to EUR 356.8 million, the agency said.

In March, the trade deficit came in at EUR 124.03 million, up from EUR 98.24 million in the preceding month. A year ago, the shortfall was EUR 121.22 million.
