Norway’s retail sales decreased unexpectedly in September, figures from Statistics Norway showed Wednesday.

Retail sales volume, excluding motor vehicles dropped a seasonally adjusted 0.8 percent month-over-month in September, defying economists’ expectations for a 0.3 percent increase. In August, sales had fallen 0.4 percent.

On an annual basis, retail sales volume fell a working-day-adjusted 0.3 percent in September, reversing a 0.9 percent gain in the prior month.

In the three months ended September, total retail sales volume grew 0.9 percent compared with the corresponding period last year.
