Portugal’s industrial production and retail sales growth strengthened in September, figures from Statistics Portugal showed Friday.
Industrial production climbed 3.8 percent year-over-year in September, much faster than the 1.2 percent increase in the previous month. It was the fifth consecutive monthly rise.
Production in the utility sector surged 8.1 percent in September from a year ago and that for manufacturing sector rose by 2.8 percent.
On a monthly basis, industrial production dropped for the second straight month by 0.5 percent in September, following a 3.0 percent decline in August.
In an another report, the statistical office announced that retail sales grew at a faster pace of 1.4 percent annually in September, after a 1.0 percent climb in the prior month.
Sales of food products went up 1.9 percent yearly in September and that for non-food products increased by 1.0 percent.
Month-on-month, retail sales fell 2.2 percent in September, reversing a 1.7 percent hike in the preceding month.
