At 4:30 am ET Thursday, the Office for National Statistics publishes U.K. quarterly GDP data. The economy is forecast to grow 0.5 percent sequentially in the fourth quarter following a 0.4 percent rise a quarter ago.

Ahead of the data, the pound showed mixed trading against its major rivals. While the pound fell against the euro and the Swiss franc, it held steady against the U.S. dollar and the yen.

As of 4:25 am ET, the pound was trading at 0.7656 against the euro, 1.4469 against the Swiss franc, 1.4265 against the U.S. dollar and 169.38 against the yen.
