Japan’s core consumer price index, excluding oil products but includes fresh foods, contracted by 0.3 percent year-on-year, government data showed on Thursday. The core-core inflation index, which does not consider food and energy prices, grew by 0.7 percent.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said on that the country’s jobless rate shrank to 3.2 percent in March, surpassing estimates of 3.3 percent. This is the first unemployment decline this year.
