Asian shares escalated as oil prices recovered, with Australian and Hong Kong shares recording their best gains yet.

US oil prices outmatched prices on the global market for the first time in four years. It increased 0.9% to $36.14 a barrel Tuesday.

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 closed 0.5% higher, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index went up 1%. The Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.4%. South Korea’s Kospi climbed 0.3%. Japanese markets were shut to celebrate the emperor’s birthday.
