The euro extended its biggest weekly slump since September as Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis blamed lenders’ assertion on more austerity for not releasing the financial assistance.

Against the US dollar and the Japanese yen, the common currency closed at $1.0943 and ¥133.20, respectively.

In the event Greece defaults, this could happen when an accident surfaces: “both sides believe the other side will back down,” said Emma Lawson, Senior Currency Strategist at National Australia Bank Ltd.
