Google Inc. justified the tax deal sealed with the UK government is not a sweetheart agreement but rather a £130 million ($185 million) settlement with the HM Revenue and Customs.

The company’s communications head Peter Barron said the United Kingdom puts the measures in place, and that the MHRC implements the laws and the company adheres to regulations.

UK Business Secretary Sajid Javid emphasized the deal was not a glorious moment for Britain and he shares the sense of inequity felt by small entities which cannot utilize the available tools to further lower their taxes.

In 2005, Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company, agreed to settle taxes following talks with British tax authorities.
