Romania’s retail sales continued to rise in February, led by higher sales of food and fuel, preliminary data from the National Institute of Statistics showed Friday.

Retail sales excluding automobile trade rose a working-day-and-seasonally adjusted 3.5 percent year-on-year in February.

Sales in stores selling mainly food, beverages and tobacco grew 6.6 percent and those in stores selling motor vehicle fuel rose 7.6 percent. Non-food sales declined 1.5 percent.

On a month-on-month basis, retail sales declined an adjusted 1.4 percent during February.

In the January to February period, retail sales grew an adjusted 4.9 percent from a year ago.
