Slovakia’s consumer confidence improved in December after falling in the previous month, figures from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic showed Monday.

The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index rose to -9.9 in December from -11.8 in November. In October, the reading was also -9.9.

The rise in December was mainly due to the increased confidence of the expected economic situation in the country and the estimated development of unemployment, the agency said.

At the same time, the economic sentiment dropped further to 99.0 in December from 100.2 in the prior month.

The index measuring confidence in the industrial sector worsened to -5.3 in December from -4.0 a month ago. Similarly, the construction confidence indicator fell to -5.5 from -1.0.
