South Korea’s consumer confidence worsened for the first time in six months in December, the latest survey from the Bank of Korea showed on Thursday.

The consumer confidence index fell to 103.0 in December from 106.0 in the previous month. In October, the reading was 105.0.

The survey was conducted among 2,200 households between December 10 and 17.

Consumer sentiment on current living standards dropped slightly to 91 in December from 92 a month earlier. Similarly, their future outlook weakened to 98 from 100.

The index measuring current domestic economic conditions had fallen by four points to 75, and that for their future outlook by five points to 84.

Consumer sentiment related to prospective changes in household income was 101 in December, down from 102 in November, and that concerning expected spending had decreased by three points to 107.

The expectation for inflation over the following year was 2.5 percent.
