Spain’s consumer prices dropped further in February, flash data from the statistical office INE showed Friday.

Consumer prices declined by a more-than-expected 0.8 percent year-on-year in February after easing 0.3 percent in January. This was the second consecutive fall in prices after staying flat in December.

Economists had forecast a 0.5 percent decrease in prices for February.

Similarly, EU harmonized consumer prices decreased 0.9 percent annually, bigger than the expected fall of 0.6 percent and January’s 0.4 percent drop.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices slid 0.3 percent versus a 0.2 percent rise in same period of last year. At the same time, harmonized prices dropped 0.4 percent.

Economists had forecast a 0.1 percent rise in consumer prices and 0.2 percent drop in harmonized prices.
