Sweden’s unemployment rate increased more-than-expected at the end of the year, figures from Statistics Sweden showed Thursday.

The jobless rate rose to 6.7 percent in December from 6.2 percent in the previous month. Economists had expected the index to climb to 6.4 percent.

In the corresponding month last year, the jobless rate was 7.0 percent.

The number of unemployed people grew to 345,000 in December from 325,000 in the previous month. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 360,000.

At the same time, the smoothed and seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 7.1 percent in December.
