Thailand’s Exports Continue To Contract In June

Thailand’s exports dropped for the 6th month running in June to US$18.16-B, registering a 7.87% decline Y-Y, the Commerce Ministry said Monday.

In 1-H of Y 2015, the country’s exports revenue totaled US$106.85-B, down 4.84% from the same frame last year, said Somkiat Trairatpan, director of the ministry’s Office of Trade Policy and Strategy.

Meanwhile, imports stood at US$18-B in June, according to Somkiat.

The country recorded a trade surplus of US$3.47-B in the 1st 6 months.

The contraction in exports was attributed to factors including the falling Crude Oil price, slow global economic recovery and a marked drop in the export of automobiles and parts.

Car exports are expected to return to normal within August and the overall exports to expand again in the final Quarter of this year, according to the director.
