Turkey’s foreign trade deficit narrowed in December from a year ago, as imports fell faster than exports, figures from the Turkish Statistical Institute showed Friday.

The trade deficit decreased to $6.18 billion in December from $8.51 billion in the corresponding month last year.

Exports declined 11.1 percent year-over-year in December and imports plunged by 17.5 percent.

On a monthly basis, the seasonally and calendar-adjusted exports dropped 1.3 percent in December, while imports rose by 2.9 percent.

In the whole year 2015, the total trade deficit of the country was $63.2 billion versus $84.5 billion in 2014.
