Early indications suggest that Wall Street stocks may open Tuesday’s session lower, extending the negative run of the previous session. Although Apple’s stellar quarterly results and capital return program could give a boost to the markets, there is a slew of earnings reports from companies such as Ford (F), Merck (MRK), Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY), Pfizer (PFE) and UPS (UPS) that could help set the tone for the markets. A domestic consumer confidence reading due shortly after the markets may also be in focus, although the markets could choose to exercise caution ahead of tomorrow’s FOMC announcement. The mood in the rest of the global markets is far from being sanguine and commodities are all seen giving back some ground even as the dollar is showing weakness.
