Woody Allen’s ‘Cafe Society’ To Open Cannes Film Festival

Woody Allen is going to Cannes again, for the 14th time

Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg Star in the story of a young couple in Hollywood in the 1930’s

His latest film, Cafe Society, will open the 69th Cannes International Film Festival on 11 May in an out-of-competition slot.

Ms. Stewart and Mr. Eisenberg head an all-Star cast that includes Blake Lively, Parker Posey and Steve Carell.

Mr. Eisenberg plays a young man who arrives in Hollywood during the 1930’s hoping to work in the film industry and finds himself taken up in the fast Cafe Society that defined the times.

This will be Woody Allen’s 14th film to screen in Cannes, all out of competition. The last was Irrational Man in Y 2015.

Mr. Eisenberg attended last year as the co-Star of Joachim Trier’s Louder Than Bombs.

Ms. Stewart is a regular at Cannes. Her last appearance at the festival was in Y 2014 for Olivier Assayas’ Clouds of Sils Maria, a role that earned her a Cesar, France’s highest cinema award, making her the 1st-ever American player to be so honored.

Letty Aronson, Stephen Tenenbaum and Edward Walson produced Cafe Society as a co-production together with Helen Robin. Ronald L. Chez, Adam B. Stern and Marc I. Stern executive produced.

FilmNation Entertainment is handling international sales.

Mars Films will debut Cafe Society in French cinemas on 11 May along with its Cannes premiere.

The Cannes Festival will announce its full Festival lineup on 14 April.
