Dutch harmonized consumer price inflation held steady in November, defying economists’ expectations for an increase, data from the Central Bureau of Statistics showed Thursday.

The harmonized index of consumer prices, or HICP, climbed 0.4 percent year-over-year in November, the same rate of spike as in October.

The expected rate of inflation was 0.6 percent. It was the seventh successive monthly rise.

At the same time, consumer price inflation accelerate slightly to 0.7 percent in November from 0.6 percent in the prior month. The increase in inflation was mainly due to the developments in petrol prices.

Excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, core inflation eased to 1.2 percent in November from 1.4 percent in the preceding month.
