$RACE

The 1st night race of the Y 2016 season is upon us as Formula One arrives at the Bahrain international circuit in Sakhir following the season opener in Melbourne, Australia Australian, which saw the Mercedes duo of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton finish 1st and 2nd respectively, with Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel rounding out the podium in 3rd place.

It was not a straight on race following a super start from the Ferrari’s saw Sebastian Vettel lead the way for most of the way. As a poor strategy call midway saw him drop back and settle for 3rd place.

The positive to come out of the race was Ferrari’s step forward in terms of pace and MercedesAMG expect the Scuderia to be closer in this desert circuit.

The new tire rules, which allow the drivers to choose 10 sets among the 3 compounds offered, also make the race interesting with varied strategies. The new qualifying format returns in Bahrain despite its failed debut at the season opener at Albert Park.

Constructors’ Championship review

MercedesAMG took maximum points possible for a team on a race weekend with a 1-2 finish and now lead Ferrari by 28 pts. The Maranello-based team saw just 1 car cross the finish line after Kimi Raikkonen retired with an engine fire, which means they are just 1 pt ahead of Williams in 3rd and 3 pts ahead of Red Bull Racing in 4th.
