French industrial output recovered as expected in May, the statistical office Insee reported Friday.

Industrial output grew 0.4 percent month-on-month in May, reversing a 0.8 percent fall in April. This was the fastest growth in three months. The monthly rate matched economists’ expectations.

Likewise, manufacturing output gained 0.6 percent, following a 0.8 percent drop in the prior month. It was the biggest rise since December, when it climbed 1.1 percent. Economists had forecast a 0.4 percent rise for May.

At the same time, construction output advanced 1 percent in contrast to a 0.7 percent fall in the prior month.

Over the last three months, output rose in the manufacturing sector by 0.4 percent sequentially, while it was stable in the industry as a whole.
