Goodwood 2015, ‘Flat-Out and Fearless – Racing on the Edge’
The 2015 Moving Motor Show has officially begun, giving members of the public the chance to drive the latest cars.
2015 Festival of Speed, which celebrates the theme: ‘Flat-Out and Fearless – Racing on the Edge’.
The Central Feature pay tribute to Mazda this year, who will bring the ear-splitting and thrilling 787Bs, which won the 1991 Le Mans 24 Hours, and importantly present the all-new MX-5 to the UK public for the 1st time.
Y 2015 is the 60th anni of Stirling Moss’s incredible victory in the Mille Miglia and Goodwood will have 7 of the 8 Mercedes 300 SLRs that were built. This is the 1st time that these cars have all been together and Stirling will drive the famous number 722 in which he and Denis Jenkinson won the great road race back in Y 1955.
Ferrari is promising its ‘greatest ever display’ at Goodwood with no fewer than 10 classic cars, ranging from a 1953 250MM to a 1990 641.
These are in addition to the dynamic debut of the 488 GTB as well as the FXX-X, both of which will take the famous hillclimb.
Other Ferraris set to take part in the Michelin Supercar Run include a California T, F12 Berlinetta, La Ferrari and the F12 TRS. And if that’s not enough, Ferrari’s Corse Clienti division will be showcasing a 599 XX, while a 458 Challenge will participate in the hillclimb.
This is a special year for bike fans.
MotoGP superstar Valentino Rossi make his Goodwood debut, on his current Yamaha race bike in celebration of Yamaha Motor Co’s 60th anni, but Casey Stoner will be on hand, as well as fellow World Champions Giacomo Agostini, John Surtees, Kenny Roberts, Jim Redman, Freddie Spencer, Sylvain Guintoli, Dave Thorpe and Chaz Davies.
And the Bienville Legacy, one of the most powerful road bikes ever made, makes its world debut.
The prize for the biggest blast of the weekend will go to the Godfather of drag racing, Big Daddy Don Garlits. He makes his Goodwood debut and brings the incredible ‘Swamp Rat 1-B’, one of his first self-built machines, as part of the largest presence by US motor sport in Festival of Speed history.
Joining ‘Big Daddy’ are debuts by Robby Gordon’s awesome Stadium SuperTrucks and ‘Ballistic’ BJ Baldwin’s Baja Enduro Truck.
This year Richard ‘The King’ Petty brings his spectacular 1970 Plymouth Superbird, fired up and ready to run in public for the first time in 40 years.
Bobby Labonte will go for a time on the hill in Richard Childress Racing’s Chevy while 1995 Truck Series Champion Mike Skinner has spent a fortune modifying his truck into a Hillclimb Special. The competition should be intense.
The Formula 1 cars are always a thrill and this summer we have Ferrari, Red Bull, Williams, McLaren and Mercedes-Benz with some of the sport’s top current names set to tackle the Goodwood Hillclimb.
Duncan Pittaway will run his monstrous, fire-breathing Fiat S76 up the Hill. This was the fastest car in the world over a quarter mile in Y 1911 and Duncan will give ‘The Beast of Turin’ a 1st public run in more than 100 years.
The Michelin Supercar Shoot-out will be sensational. The line-up includes the new McLaren P1GTR, the Ferrari 488 GTB and the Glickenhaus SCG while Koenigsegg will run their 1500bhp Regera.
Cartier celebrates its 20th year at the Goodwood Festival with a wonderful collection of Figoni et Falaschi cars from Peter Mullin’s museum in California in the ‘Style et Luxe’ concours d’elegance, while the Bonhams sale will include a number of cars from Rolling Stone Bill Wyman’s collection.

Have a terrific weekend.
