Italy’s consumer prices rose less than estimated in September, final data from the statistical office Istat showed Wednesday.
Consumer prices climbed 0.2 percent year-on-year in September, the same rate as seen in the last three months. Inflation for September was revised down from 0.3 percent.
At the same time, consumer prices dropped 0.4 percent on month, reversing August’s 0.2 percent increase. The statistical office initially estimated a 0.3 percent drop for September.
Excluding energy and unprocessed food, core inflation was 0.8 percent, up from 0.7 percent registered in August. Excluding energy, inflation was 0.9 percent versus 0.8 in the previous month.
The EU measure of inflation, or HICP, climbed 0.2 percent from the prior year, but slower than the 0.4 percent growth posted in August.
On a monthly basis, the index gained 1.6 percent, in contrast to a 0.1 percent fall a month ago. Both annual and monthly HICP figures matched preliminary estimate published on September 30.
