Latvia’s foreign trade deficit increased in July from a year ago, as imports grew faster than exports, figures from the Central Statistical Bureau showed Wednesday.

The trade defiicit rose to EUR 252.4 million in July from EUR 232.1 million in the corresponding month last year. In June, the shortfall was 230.1 million.

Exports climbed 0.4 percent year-over-year in July and imports went up by 2.2 percent. On a monthly basis, both exports and imports grew by 5.0 percent and 6.1 percent, respectively in July.

The country’s main export partners during July were Lithuania, Estonia, Germany and Poland. Imports largely came from Lithuania, Germay, Poland and Estonia.
