Thailand’s consumer prices declined at a slower-than-expected pace in October, figures from the Commerce Ministry showed Monday.
The consumer price index dropped 0.8 percent year-over-year in October, below economists’ expectations for a 0.94 percent decrease.
In September, prices had fallen 1.07 percent. Prices have been falling since January this year.
Transportation and communication costs dipped 6.5 percent annually in October and energy prices plunged by 15.5 percent. At the same time, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew 1.7 percent.
Excluding raw food and energy, core inflation held steady at 1.0 percent in October. Economists had expected inflation to ease marginally to 0.94 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.20 percent in October, reversing a 0.05 percent mere drop in the prior month. It was the first increase in four months.
