Cyprus’ unemployment rate decreased in the three months ended June, figures from the Statistical Service showed Friday.

The jobless rate fell to 14.7 percent in the second quarter from 17.7 percent in the previous quarter. In the corresponding month last year, the unemployment rate was 15.4 percent.

The number of unemployed people decreased to 62,643 in the three-month period to June from 77,142 in the previous three months.

The youth unemployment rate, which applies to the 15 to 24 age group, came in at 31.7 percent in the June quarter, down notably from 37.1 percent in the March quarter. A year ago, the jobless figure totaled 37.2 percent.

At the same time, the employment rate climbed to 54.1 percent in the second quarter from 53.1 percent in the three months ended March.
