The Conference Board is scheduled to release the results of its consumer confidence index for October at 10 am ET Tuesday. The consensus estimate calls for a reading of 102.5 compared to 103 in September.

Ahead of the data, the greenback showed mixed trading against its major rivals.
While the greenback held steady against the yen and the pound, it rose against the franc. Against the euro, it rebounded from its early low.

The greenback was worth 1.1040 against the euro, 120.38 against the yen, 0.9850 against the franc and 1.5317 against the pound as of 9:55 am ET.
