At 10 am ET Friday, the University of Michigan is scheduled to release its final U.S. consumer sentiment index for September. Economists expect the index to be upwardly revised to 87.1 from 85.7, although down from 91.9 in August.

The greenback showed mixed trading against the other major currencies before the data. While the greenback held steady against the franc and the pound, it pared early gain versus the yen and the euro.

The greenback was worth 1.1178 against the euro, 1.5193 against the pound, 120.69 against the yen and 0.9776 against the franc as of 9:55 am ET.
