The Conference Board is due to release the results of its consumer confidence survey for March at 10 am ET Tuesday. The consensus estimate calls for an improvement in the index to 94 from 92.2 in February.

The greenback traded mixed against the other major currencies before the data.
While the greenback held steady against the franc, it slipped against the rest of major rivals.

The greenback was worth 1.1202 against the euro, 1.4266 against the pound, 113.42 against the yen and 0.9747 against the franc as of 9:55 am ET.
