Ireland’s retail sales declined in August after recovering a month ago, figures from the Central Statistics Office showed Monday.

Retail sales volume decreased 4 percent on a monthly basis in August, reversing a 13.4 percent rise in July. Sales declined for the third time in last four months.

Year-on-year, growth in retail sales volume slowed to 9.3 percent from 10.2 percent a month ago.

Excluding motor trades, sales volume increased 0.9 percent from July and by 7.6 percent from same period of last year.

At the same time, there was a monthly decrease of 1.7 percent in the value of retail sales in August in contrast to July’s 7.7 percent increase. The annual growth eased to 5.6 percent from 6.6 percent.

If motor trades are excluded, there was a monthly increase of 0.3 percent in the value of retail sales and an annual increase of 3.7 percent, it said.
